Use a webcam for convenience. As with smartphones, most laptops made within the last five years come with an integrated webcam (usually just above the monitor). Webcams tend to have much poorer quality than a standard video camera, but they'll do if you can't afford to purchase a smartphone or dedicated camera. Use a smartphone for mobility. Most smartphones on the market come with three video-making essentials: A video camera feature to record videos, a microphone to record audio, and a large hard drive on which to store everything. While smartphones are portable, the audio and visual quality can be inferior to that of a dedicated video camera. Videos take up a lot of storage space. You may need to transfer your videos off of your phone after recording. Use a video camera for high-quality filming. You can find decent-quality video cameras for under $50 on Amazon, or you can spend around $120 on a high-quality video camera. Video cameras often have better display quality than a...

With final results due to be declared later Monday, Vladimir Putin appeared on course to be re-elected decisively in what one of his challengers described as a "filthy election." Putin, who will serve another six-year-term bringing him just short of ruling Russia for as long as Communist dictator Joseph Stalin, didn't wait for the final tally and addressed supporters at a flag-waving anniversary rally off Moscow’s Red Square, marking Crimea's annexation by Russia four years ago. Speaking from a stage to a cheering crowd, Putin said his victory was a recognition of what had been achieved in the past few years. "I see in this trust and hope, the hope of our people that we will work with the same intensity, with the same sense of responsibility and with even greater results," he added, before leading the crowd in a chant of "Russia, Russia!" "Thank you for the fact that we have such a powerful, millions-strong team. Success awaits us." Putin...
Lawmakers on both sides of the Atlantic criticized Facebook and its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, after reports surfaced that another company, Cambridge Analytica, improperly harvested information from 50 million Facebook users. A British lawmaker accused Facebook on Sunday of misleading officials by downplaying the risk of users' data being shared without their consent. Conservative legislator Damian Collins, who heads the British Parliament's media committee, said he would ask Zuckerberg or another Facebook executive to appear before his panel, which is investigating disinformation and "fake news." Collins said Facebook has "consistently understated" the risk of data leaks and gave misleading answers to the committee. "Someone has to take responsibility for this," he said. "It's time for Mark Zuckerberg to stop hiding behind his Facebook page." Collins also accused the head of the U.K.-based data firm Cambridge Analytica, Alexan...
World leaders are congratulating Vladimir Putin on his election for a new six-year term as Russian president, but so far no Western leaders have responded to his victory. Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country's partnership with Russia was at its "best level in history". Mr Putin got more than 76% of the vote, official results show. He said he was considering changes to his government, including the post of prime minister. Former President Dmitry Medvedev has held the post since he changed places in 2012 with Mr Putin, who has ruled the country as either president or prime minister since 1999. Facebook Inc. on Friday said it was suspending political data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica, which worked for President Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign, after finding data privacy policies had been violated. Facebook said in a statement that it suspended Cambridge Analytica and its parent group Strategic Communication Laboratories (SCL) after receiving reports that they did not delete information about Facebook users that had been inappropriately shared. Cambridge Analytica was not immediately available for comment. Facebook did not mention the Trump campaign or any political campaigns in its statement, attributed to company Deputy General Counsel Paul Grewal. “We will take legal action if necessary to hold them responsible and accountable for any unlawful behavior,” Facebook said, adding that it was continuing to investigate the claims. SAN FRANCISCO YouTube will begin displaying text from Wikipedia articles and other websites alongside some videos in a couple of weeks as the unit of Alphabet Inc's Google attempts to combat hoaxes and conspiracy theories on the service, its chief executive said on Tuesday. Susan Wojcicki, speaking on stage at the South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas, displayed a mock-up of the new feature, which are called information cues. YouTube intends to present an alternative viewpoint to videos questioning science or describing conspiracies about events such as the U.S. moon landing. She said information cues would first roll out to topics for which there are a significant number of YouTube videos. “People can still watch the videos but then they actually have access to additional information, can click off and go and see that,” Wojcicki said. Lawmakers and media advocacy groups have called on YouTube to help stop the spread of hoaxes and false news stories. Last year, the company...

The Methodology: To tally up the world’s most-visited attractions, we gathered the most recent data supplied by the attractions themselves or from government agencies, industry reports, and reputable media outlets. In most cases, it was 2013 data. Attractions that don’t sell tickets gave us estimates as best they could. We defined “tourist attractions” as cultural and historical sites, natural landmarks, and officially designated spaces. So Boston’s shop-filled Faneuil Hall Marketplace (est. 1742) made the cut, but not Minnesota’s Mall of America, which, with 40 million annual visitors, would otherwise have tied for No. 4. Short walkways and plazas also fit our definition of tourist attractions; that disqualified the Blue Ridge Parkway. We also omitted beaches, bridges, and sites that draw almost exclusively religious pilgrims.
